Is Bite Beauty Cruelty-Free?

Bite Beauty has confirmed that they are cruelty-free. They don’t test their ingredients or final products on animals. Bite Beauty is owned by a parent company, LVMH, that does test on animals because their products are sold in countries where animal testing is required by law. Bite Beauty products are NOT sold anywhere where animal testing is required by law, so they can be classified as cruelty-free.

Bite Beauty used to be certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny, but they no longer are. They are on PETA’s cruelty-free list though.

Is Bite Beauty Vegan?

Bite Beauty reformulated all of their products in 2020, so they are now 100% vegan. In the past, none of their lip products were vegan because they contained beeswax, lanolin, or carmine, but they have removed all of those ingredients from their products.

Here is a statement on the Bite Beauty website about becoming 100% vegan:

“Our reason to go vegan was simple-we’ve evolved. We can create high-performance formulas without ingredients that come from animals. As we’ve been innovating with superfoods, we’ve learned we can get amazing results that perform on par with-if not better than-formulas that contain animal byproducts.
Further, we wanted to create products everyone can love-including people who crave clean, cruelty-free, and vegan beauty.”

Email to the Company

Before classifying any brand as cruelty-free and vegan, I send them an email with the following questions:

  1. Are your products vegan? If only some are vegan, which ones?
  2. Are any of your products or ingredients tested on animals?
  3. Do you have a Leaping Bunny or PETA certification?
  4. Do your suppliers or any third parties test animals on your behalf?
  5. Does your company sell products in mainland China (except Hong Kong)?
  6. Are you owned by a parent company that tests on animals?
